The Boston Celtics are one of the most successful teams in NBA history, having won a total of 17 NBA titles. These championships were won in 1957, 1959-1966, 1968-1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986, and 2008.

1957 NBA Championship

Led by Russell, point guard Bob Cousy, and 1956-57 Rookie of the Year Tom Heinsohn, the Celtics won their first NBA championship in 1957.

The Boston Celtics have appeared in the NBA Finals 22 times: 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 2008, 2010, and 2017.

Most NBA Championships

With 17 NBA championships, the Celtics are tied with the Lakers for the most in league history. Most of Boston's postseason success has come with Bill Russell, who played for the Celtics from 1956 to 1969 and won 11 championships with the team.
